The Ancestors of David Nolette
I have always been interested in genealogy but for many years I did not aggressively seek out information. I did ask a few questions of relatives but not many. I did make one audio tape of my father, Alden Nolette describing his childhood. I did ask my Grandma Reed some questions but not enough. I did save the few documents I was given. Unfortunately by the time I began to make a thorough study of my family history the best sources of information had died. It takes a lot longer to build up a family history without the nuggets of knowledge you can get from relatives. They also have stories you won't find anywhere else. I did learn enough on my mother Jennie's side to get started. I have made several trips to Boone, Iowa finding my mother's roots.
My father's side of the family is a different story. My grandfather Napoleon Nolette had left Canada at a young age and my father knew very little about the origins of his father. I had started to search without much luck when Terri Allred sent me a copy of Napoleon's Social Security Card application. After that it was amazing how much information could be found at the Minnesota Historical Society. They have excellent resources in French-Canadian study. So let's go back to the beginning. Vincent Nollet was the first known Nolette ancestor. He lived and died in France. Sebastien Nolet was the first Nolette ancestor to emigrate to Quebec. He arrived there about 1650. Napoleon Nolette was the first of my Nolette ancestors to emigrate to the United States. By the way, that's me David Nolette with my wife Donna in 1996 at our 25th Wedding Anniversary celebration.
This next photograph was taken in the summer of 1974 or 1975. It was taken at the home of my parents Alden Nolette and Jennie (Reed) Nolette. From the left Dennis the youngest brother, Penny, Douglas the second oldest brother, Diane, Ronnie the third of four, Donna, and the oldest-- David. In the front is Michael, Douglas and Penny's son, next Terri, Douglas's oldest daughter, and then next Heidi the daughter of Ron and Diane, then Tracey, the youngest of Doug and Penny , and sitting on the grass are my parents Alden and Jennie.
