Criteria
for Submission of Photos
Steps
- Select the best of the photos you want to submit.
Pick the sharpest photos that are composed well, have good color
rendition and have correct lighting and contrast. I
would like to have about four per month to choose from.
- If the contrast and color can easily be corrected
do this now. Before you start this step you may wish to change the
photo to a lossless photo compression type such as bmp. Stay in this photo type
until
you make the final photo for each step.
-
Next compose and crop the photo if necessary. You may want to stay with
the original photo ratio which is usually 4/3. The bare
minimum would be 1024 pixels by 728 pixels. Higher would be better. An
exception would be if this photo is being submitted for a day
photo only, then a minimum would be 720 by 540 pixels. The result of
this crop will be your base print photo, that is why you want to take
the photos with the the highest possible resolution.
- Now
make a jpeg of this print photo.
- Now
make
a web photo from the base print photo. You do this by this by resizing
the photo by shrinking it, not by croping it again. Because I use a
resolution of 1024
by 768 pixels, I want this photo to be a maximum of 600 pixels high and
a maximum of 900 pixels wide. This would be the size I would use in
'100 Years of Family Photos'.
- Now make a
jpeg of this photo.
- Now
make a day photo from the
base print photo. A day photo is a photo that automatically changes
with the date. I want this photo to be a maximum of 540 pixels high
and maximum of 720 pixels wide. If you don't care about the
print photo or web photo you may make just this photo.
- Now
make a jpeg of this photo.
- Now email me the jpeg of
the print photo, the web photo and day photo.
